An Interactive Museum Theatre Experience

On December 2, 2018 The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County’s Performing Arts Program and the ITSC shared a performance of Los Angeles: Coming Home, a theatrical collaboration that aimed to inspire conversation around the theme of HOME, reflected in the Natural History Museum’s Becoming Los Angeles exhibit.

Members of local community organizations, Instituto de Educación Popular del Sur de California (IDEPSCA), Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights Los Angeles (CHIRLA), and Los Angeles Poverty Department (LAPD), shared stories in the model of Forum Theatre – a facilitated, participatory style of theatre where the audience is encouraged to offer suggestions for solutions to issues proposed in the play. To explore today’s L.A experience, we looked at the concept of history as it “curates” memory to create a vision of the future, telling the under-told stories of the people who have made L.A their home.
