The program offers two specialized medical clowning courses each year, open to students university-wide. The multidisciplinary study of artistic and medical training culminates in an on-site weekly medical clowning practicum, conducted by professionals and advanced students, in the program’s established partner hospitals. These hospitals include the LAC+USC Medical Center (LAC+USC), the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA), and the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center (NCCC). The practitioners currently sustain over 150 visits each year at these venues and have built a strong rapport with the hospital staff, ensuring the program’s long-term integration into these facilities and laying the groundwork to establish medical clowning in additional medical centers throughout Los Angeles.
