The program is partnered with USC Keck School of Medicine’s Institute for Integrative Health and the USC Dworak-Peck School of Social Work to conduct crucial research to elevate the practice as a vital paramedical profession that supports hospital efficiency and improves patient healing and wellness. Currently, the program is investigating the utilization of medical clowns during the intravenous blood draw process for pediatric oncology-hematology patients with the Chief Resident of the LAC + USC Pediatrics Department. The program is also in development on a second clinical trial in partnership with The Children’s Bureau that aims to explore the benefits of play-based exercises to promote connection and bonding during support groups for families impacted by the foster care system.
